FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

Brickyard Crossing is a unique golf course, located on the property of the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). The golf course was redesigned in 1993 by Golf Course Architect Pete Dye, situating 4 holes inside the motor speedway. Having a golf course intertwined with a major motor speedway creates a unique work experience not found at many places. The Golf Course Turf Management Department is responsible for a championship conditioned golf course, while also maintaining the chemical and irrigation program for the entire motor speedway. IMS plays host to major events every year, including the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, The Indianapolis 500, The Brickyard 400, and The Red Bull Air Races. New in 2017, Brickyard Crossing will play host to the LPGA Tour’s Indianapolis Women In Technology Championship contested in September. Being tied in with IMS provides many logistical and scheduling challenges, however it also opens the door for resources that are unique to many golf courses.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Manages and oversees comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all golf course and construction related equipment as directed by Superintendent or Assistant. Places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean shop and maintenance building.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • With the Golf Course Superintendent, provides support for Facilities Department. 
  • Manages and oversees comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all golf course and construction related equipment as directed by Superintendent or Assistant.
  • Places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean shop and maintenance building.
  • Maintains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment, purchases repair parts and shop supplies.
  • Keeps a complete set of records for equipment maintenance and parts inventory, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment.
  • Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical problems/failures in all golf course maintenance equipment including diesel, electric, and gasoline powered; hydraulic systems; electrical systems; manual and automatic transmissions; reels, bedknives and rotary blades.
  • Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work, schedules and directs the work assignments of the Equipment Maintenance Technician.
  • Spot checks equipment for performance on the course, frequently makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use.
  • Responsible for shop area maintenance.
  • Regulates employees' use of equipment in absence of Superintendent and Assistant, if needed, and performs other duties as directed by Superintendent.

  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Schedules and directs the work assignments of the Equipment Maintenance Technician.
  • Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work.
  • Regulates employees’ use of equipment in absence of Superintendent and Assistant.

Education

  • Two-year Certificate or Associates degree in Golf Course Equipment Management. High school graduate or GED with equipment experience, or equivalent experience.

Skills/Experience

  • Minimum two years’ experience as an Equipment Manager or Mechanic at comparable Golf Course.
  • High integrity.
  • Strong people skills.
  • Innovative thinker and self-starter.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Effective working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and specialty apparatuses.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair.
  • Effective working knowledge of the theory, care and operation of internal combustion engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, and mowing equipment.
  • Effective working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions machinery involved with the position.
  • Requires an ability to move heavy objects over fifty pounds.
  • Requires valid driver's license.

Travel/Work Hours

  • No travel required
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends

Seasonal: Safety Patrol | NOW RECRUITING 2017 BRICKYARD 400 - Indianapolis Motor Speedway

The Safety Patrol is an iconic part of Indianapolis Motor Speedway history.  This team is responsible for essential event operations that span our 988 acre facility, and help us deliver some of the most exciting events in the world.  Whether you are interested in working at the gates, in the stands or garages, directing traffic or assisting in suites, each role is crucial to success and enhances the guest experience of thousands of race-fans.   

Seasonal positions start at $8/hour with a typical work day being 8-12 hours with breaks.  

Application process includes a background check and interview.   All applicants should have a strong desire to serve race-fans and represent the IMS brand. Key qualifications include: dependability, flexibility and exceptional customer service.  Primary dates and events include:

  • SVRA – June 8-June 19

  • Bloomington Gold – June 22-June 25

  • Brickyard 400 – July 22-July 23

  • SCCA Runoffs – Sept 17-Oct 2

  • Red Bull Air Race – Oct 13-Oct 15

Event hours are approximately 6am - 6pm with race days being as early as 4am.

The Safety Patrol operates 5 key areas at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Applicants will be placed in one of the following areas for the season:

  • STANDS & MOUNDS: Provide hospitality and customer service to guests while verifying tickets.

  • GARAGE & PITS: Verify credentials in garage, pit and media center locations. Provide hospitality in Plaza area. Provide security on Pit Lane, in Garages, and track access points.

  • TRAFFIC: Direct and park all infield, employee, and credentialed vehicular traffic.

  • GATES: Greet each guest upon their arrival and verify each guest’s ticket; check bags and coolers.

  • SUITES & HOSPITALITY: Verify all tickets and credentials at suites; provide customer service to all hospitality guests.
