POSITION TITLE: Intern, Golf Course Turf Management

DEPARTMENT: Golf Course Turf Management

REPORTS TO: Golf Course Superintendent

POSITION LOCATION: Indianapolis

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Seasonal

DURATION OF INTERNSHIP: May-August 2017

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the Golf Course Superintendent’s supervision, the Intern will participate in the overall planning and maintenance of the golf course. Perspective intern should have the goal of working as a Superintendent; however, should keep in mind that this internship is a learning experience intended to help the candidate grow professionally.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:     

  • With the Golf Course Superintendent, provides leadership for all agronomic practices.
  • Participates in the overall planning and maintenance of the golf course and other properties.
  • Will assist in the programming, operation and troubleshooting of computerized irrigation systems.
  • Assists in scheduling, assigning tasks and management of crew members.
  • Will assist in the calibration and application of fertilizers and pesticides.
  • Assists in purchasing of related supplies.
  • Assists in budgeting and communication projects.
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to the company and the Vision, Mission and Values.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Education

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Turfgrass Management or related field.

Skills/Experience

  • Candidate must possess positive attitude, strong work ethic, attention to detail, eagerness to learn and organizational skills. 
  • High integrity.

  • Innovative thinker and self-starter with perseverance to lead teams to success.

Travel/Work Hours

  • No travel required
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends
  • Daily work typically begins at 6am

Internship: Information Technology - Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Indianapolis, IN)

POSITION TITLE: IT Internship

DEPARTMENT: Information Technology Operations

REPORTS TO: Director, IT Operations

POSITION LOCATION: IMS Administration Building

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Seasonal

HOURS: May-August. General office hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Must be available to work during track events on weekends and overtime, if requested.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:       

Help Desk Duties:

  • Act as the initial contact point for Hulman & Co properties including IMS, INDYCAR and IMS Productions, by answering the IT HelpDesk phone and creating a ticket in the HelpDesk ticketing system based on information obtained from the requestor.
  • Assist customer (user) that has contacted the IT HelpDesk via phone, in resolving their issue.
  • Work with the HelpDesk team in assigning tickets and resolving technology issues.
  • Assist HelpDesk team in device configuration and setup.
  • Review new helpdesk tickets entered and assign required identification elements to the ticket.
  • Assist IT team during track events when requested.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be technically minded and able to solve basic computer and software issues.
  • Must be outgoing, friendly and have a pleasant and calm personality.
  • Must be able to calmly communicate with Hulman & Co employees, including IMS, INDYCAR and IMS Productions, when requesting assistance in stressful situations.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently enrolled in an IT focused curriculum.
  • Training and/or experience in supporting IT technology in a business environment.
  • Experience using and supporting Microsoft desktop products. Office 2013/2016, Windows 7/10.
  • Knowledge of networks, servers and desktops hardware and software.
  • Basic understanding of cloud based technologies.
  • Experience in a role that directly interacts with multiple people on a daily basis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Move or lift equipment up to 50 lbs for purposes of installation, repair or delivery to a specific location.
  • Manuever in tight spaces to run network cables and power equipment.

POSITION TITLE: Museum Collections Intern

ORGANIZATION: Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum

POSITION LOCATION: Indianapolis

OTHER STATUS: Seasonal, part-time

This position description is for an employee of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, LLC, (“Speedway”) to work for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Foundation, Inc. (d/b/a Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum), pursuant to the relationships of the Speedway and the Foundation set forth in their Shared Services Agreement dated as of December 2006, as currently in effect and as it may hereafter be amended. 

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum internship program is design to provide students with an introduction to collections management and provide hands-on experience in museum work in a small museum setting.  The internship will familiarize the intern with one collections management software/database system (PastPerfect), the processing of newly acquired collection items, and the storage of collection items.

Responsibilities:

The museum intern will assist with the day-to-day operations of the collection management functions within the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.  The museum intern will work with collections management and curatorial staff on the processing of newly acquired collection objects, the creation of new exhibits, and the overall care and management of the Museum’s collections. The intern will gain practical experience in collections management and basic preservation activities.

The intern will have hands-on experience with objects in the permanent collection in terms of inventorying, assessment of condition, storage and maintenance, accessioning and deaccessioning, cataloguing, researching, and entering information into the PastPerfect database.

Specific duties may include:

  • Inventorying specific collections and amending location information

  • Researching the history of a specific object or its attribution to a specific accession

  • Assisting conservation/preservation staff in a variety of projects including environmental monitoring, conservation surveys and collection care

  • Creating records in the Museum's collection database

  • Condition reporting, marking and housing objects

  • Participating in exhibit installation

  • Processing incoming and outgoing loan materials (producing reports; assisting in packing and unpacking objects) to gain exposure to the loan program and procedures

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in museum studies, history, library science, or related academic programs.  Graduate coursework in museum studies or library sciences preferred.
  • Experience (paid or unpaid) with museums and libraries, with experience in collections management preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills – ability to create structure and organization out of a non-structured situation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high accuracy rate required.
  • Good written and oral communications skills, with an emphasis on inter-personal relations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of people with different skills and abilities.
  • Ability to use technology to achieve desired results.
  • Knowledge of and experience using PastPerfect.
  • Knowledge of and experience using MICROSOFT Office products (WORD and EXCEL).
  • Experience using a digital camera and scanner.

  • Knows when to ask questions to seek guidance and when to move forward on his or her own.
